At the start of each season I do a small closet reorganization. In-season pieces go to the front of the closet and out of season to the back. Not only does it make getting dressed easier, it also gives you a chance to take inventory of what you have and love, what you hate and will donate, and what (if any) pieces you may need to fill in the gaps. Most of the time I find that when I do this, I really don’t need to add much. The fun (or challenge, depending on how much you love thinking up outfits) is piecing all of your older clothes and accessories in new ways. Totally new outfits without spending any money? Sounds good to me!
Here are three outfits I have been dreaming about wearing when the weather gets warmer.
- Jeans and a t-shirt – the ultimate weekend outfit. Comfortable and easy to wear. Just throw on a pair of flats and go. But, when you tuck in the shirt, add a belt, throw on a lightweight, relaxed linen jacket, and switch out sneakers for a pair of cute (comfortable) shoes; you take a basic look and make it more polished. Same comfy outfit, brand new look.
- On the weekends Shea and I joke that we are putting on our uniforms. We both have a default weekend outfit formula, me more so when the weather is cooler. But, when the temperatures rise, I try to take advantage of dresses as much as I can. Not only does it give me a break from my cold weather uniform of jeans, a sweater, and boots; but, when you choose the right style, a dress is so much more comfortable. Bonus, it’s a complete outfit in one easy piece. Just add accessories and you’re done.
- I love color. And, I can’t think of a better season to showcase all of your colorful clothes than spring. To keep a girly skirt from looking too frilly, I paired it with a pink button down shirt. The color of the shirt keeps with the fun feel of the skirt, but the structured style tones the sweetness down.
