Summertime Skin Saver

ACS_0337If you’ve been following my blog the past few months, then I’m sure by now you know how much I love skincare and beauty. I could talk about both for hours.

With that being said, I want to share how beneficial patchouli is in skincare.

Patchouli essential oil moisturizes and cools the skin. It is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory, making it beneficial for a number of skin issues. Such as…

  • Dryness
  • Inflammation
  • Healing minor scars and surface wounds
  • Sores
  • Eczema

Summer can wreak havoc on our skin. Between the extra sun exposure and swimming in salt and/or chlorinated water, our skin can become dry – let’s not even mention those damaging UV rays from the sun.

UV rays create free radicals in the skin, which can break down collagen and damage skin cells. They are one of the main culprits in accelerating the skin’s aging process – and no-one wants that!

Remember how we learned, from this post that Patchouli is an antioxidant? That means it can help protect your skin from those free radicals.

Because it is so nourishing to the skin, Patchouli is a no brainer to add to your moisturizer during the summer months.

Today I want to share a blend that is the perfect addition to your mid summer skincare routine. Each of the essential oils, when blended together in the base of your choice, create a cooling, nourishing, beautifully scented moisturizer. The aroma is fresh and earthy – a bit floral, a bit herbal and woody. The dilution is low, as you will be using it every day, which keeps the scent light.

You can make this with the carrier of your choice. My favorites are a base with not much of a sent, such as jojoba oil or an unscented lotion. I especially like jojoba for the warmer months as I feel it absorbs easily into the skin.

You can even use this blend on your face. Just be sure not to add anymore than the recommended drops per carrier amount listed in the recipe.
