4 Recipes and 4 Quick Fixes Using Only 4 Essential Oils!



Have you ever had so many choices for something that you ended up stressing yourself out? I know I have. When I first started learning about essential oils, the more research I did the more overwhelmed I would feel. I thought I needed every single oil out there in order to be able to create a just a small variety of blends. But, the more I learned about the oils, and the more I played with them, I realized that less is definitely more. So, today I want to show you how you can have a wide range of blends for everyday use with just four oils. (I am including their Latin names so you will be sure you have the correct oils. Some plants have the same genus but different species which will cause them to have different therapeutic properties – but that’s another post for another time).

The Oils

  1. Lavender, Lavandula angustifolia : Lavender is, in my opinion, one oil everyone should have on hand. It has such a wide range of uses. Emotionally, Lavender helps to calm and soothe us. It also helps to ease anxiety and fear. Physically, Lavender helps ease pain, inflammation, and muscle spasms. It has antibacterial and antifungal properties, and is wonderful for the skin. It can help ease irritation from minor burns, cuts, infections, and rashes. As you can see, I am a big fan of Lavender. Oh, and did I mention it also eases insomnia? It does! Quick Fix: Dab some undiluted Lavender on minor burns or sunburn, to help ease the pain and swelling.
  2. Sweet Orange, Citrus sinensis Sweet Orange is fresh and bright. It is emotionally uplifting as well as calming in cases where anxiety or overwhelm are present. Physically, Sweet Orange is excellent for digestive issues. It is also helpful in reducing pain and inflammation. Quick Fix: Mix 15 drops of Sweet Orange into 1 ounce of unscented lotion, rub on your belly when you have any digestive trouble.
  3. Tea Tree, Melaleuca alternifolia Tea Tree is best known for its antimicrobial properties, but emotionally, it is uplifting and helps boost confidence. Physically, Tea Tree is great for supporting the immune system and is helpful in fighting bacterial, fungal, and viral infections. Quick Fix: Mix 18 drops of Tea Tree with 1 ounce of pure aloe vera gel, and dab on pimples. The antibacterial properties in the oil will help fight the pimple while the aloe vera will soothe any irritation.
  4. Cedarwood, Juniperus virginianaCedarwood has a grounding effect on us, helping to calm us during stressful times. Physically, Cedarwood is beneficial in easing coughs and respiratory congestion. It is also great as a natural bug repellant! Quick Fix: Add 1-2 drops on a tissue and inhale a few times throughout the day, to help ease any respiratory congestion.


The Recipes

Soothing Bedtime Linen Spray

2 ounces Lavender hydrosol

15 drops Lavender essential oil

5 drops Sweet Orange essential oil

Combine all ingredients in a 2 ounce spray bottle and mist on sheets and pillowcase before bed.

Fresh Air Diffuser Blend

25 drops Lavender essential oil

25 drops Tea Tree essential oil

25 drops Sweet Orange essential oil

Combine all three oils in a glass dropper bottle. Add the appropriate drops to your diffuser per manufacturers instructions. Use 3 – 4 times a day, for 30 minutes at a time, to purify the air and uplift your mood. Added bonus – it will give your immune system a boost as well!

Hand Sanitizer

2 ounces pure aloe vera gel

15 drops Tea Tree essential oil

5 drops Lavender essential oil

5 drops Sweet Orange essential oil

Combine all ingredients in a 2 ounce bottle with a flip top. Shake well. Enjoy germ free hands, perk up your mood, and boost your immune system all at the same time. Naturally too! Please note: If using for children ages 5-12, please reduce the drops of each oil to 4 drops each.

Sinus Steam

10 drops Cedarwood essential oil

10 drops Tea Tree essential oil

10 drops Lavender essential oil

Add the oils to a glass dropper bottle. Bring water to almost a boil, pour into a small to medium size bowl. Add 1-2 drops MAX. (It is important that you do not use any more than 1-2 drops. Doing so can cause irritation!) Cover you head with a towel and inhale the steam for 1-2 minutes. Be sure to keep your eyes closed. You can do this 3 or 4 times through the day to ease any congestion and help fight any infection. Do not use for children under the age of 12.
